Roll for Table, Issue No. 1: A Roll Table for Rolling Up Roll Tables

Hey, thanks for stopping by! Roll for Table is where we build roll tables from scratch, live on stream, then roll on them to see what comes out. This zine collects everything from our first session: the generator we built, the five tables it rolled up, and the weird little things we made with them.

What’s inside (20 pages)

  • The Generator: a roll table for rolling up roll tables. Five steps (die size, category, type, magic or common, and element) give you the seed for a brand new table. Roll all five or just two. It’s your idea generator.
  • Festivals: a d8 of what the town is celebrating, plus a d6 for how popular it is. (Things get really interesting at the extremes.)
  • Magical Fauna: a d20 of creature qualities. Roll a d4 to see how many you get, combine them, and figure out what makes it magical.
  • Curses: ten magic effects that land on everyone around the cursed character, plus a duration table that goes from seconds to permanent.
  • Tourist Traps: ten overpriced, misleading destinations, plus a d6 for how well (or badly) each one is run.
  • Sacred Lost Relics: ten kinds of holy junk, plus a power level from weak to god-like.

Plus what we rolled up on stream

A steampunk ska festival (The Pipes of Pottsfield), an electric unicorn squid that puts out local wi-fi (the Zapacorn), a friendly bird-crab that talks to trees (the Root Weaver), a ceramic ball bearing museum, a B&B run by a “dead” celebrity, a time-stopping sword, and more. There are simple stat blocks where they fit, and six adventure hooks to drop into your game.

Use it anywhere

The tables are written to be system agnostic, so they work in a cyberpunk world, a classic fantasy world, or anything in between. And remember, it’s just a guide. Take these tables and change them however you want. They’re yours now.

Made by Justin Estrada (justrada.com) and Jessa Beckett (@astralmarmot). Issue No. 1 of many. Once there are enough, we’ll collect them into a volume.
